Study Guide Cover

The art teacher of mine asked if I could draw the cover picture to the autumn newsletter of our school (later it was changed as a study guide but what ever, I was asked to draw a cover for that autumn newsletter) and she told that a rowan branch could be a good topic. I got a model branch to use, kept it in a same position with one hand same time than I was drawing the scetch of my picture with the other hand (that was about to kill my wrist and few fingers!) and after that I did the final lineart and erased the pencil lines. That time I didn't have a lightbox yet (now I use the glass surfaced table that used to be on the balcony with a lamp and it's damn handy that way). The original was A4 sized and done on white copy paper but they took the original and didn't give it back to me so I only have this printed version. It's A5 sized and it was printed on yellow paper. I did the whole thing for free. And they didn't even credit me!

China ink, a real branch as a model, white copy paper, several hours.

Projects and such

Hey hey again folks!
I've been doing lots of stuff lately so I haven't had time to update this blog very often. However I've drawn my scetchbook almost full in eight weeks and I'm quite sure it has also payed it off - with that amount of drawing + all the other scratchings, I just had to learn something. Drawing is mostly practicing but the reason I do is the fun, not really the development. That's why I've done the projects and oh, there will be more of them too.

Now when the school is about to start, I've kind of returned to the normal schedule and stopped staying all nights up an sleeping half day. It usually helps me to start new things and get something really ready. At last I've came back to my 77 Glorious Songs Project with few new songs, and there's more to come too. I've also started a new project which I call just simply "The Elf Quest collaque", because it just tells it all about it. Maybe I create an entry for it later and then start to publish the elves I've drawn. Now I've drawn just one, but I'll do more.

I don't really know how much of free time I will have in future because I'll start highschool in few days - really, the day after tomorrow - and it's my first year and I'd like to start other hobbies as well, not just only draw and paint. However, I try to find time to work with my aquarelles and china ink.

Take care!

Vasta scetch + others

Time it took: ?

Random scetches, killing time and boredom. I like the big Vasta picture, though.

The Mistress of The Sun Palace

Tools used: Open Canvas 1.1, Wacom tablet
Time it took: Who knows. An hour maybe.

Myrdiel from TToN.

Myrdiel

Tools used: Open Canvas 1.1, Wacom Intuos 3 -tablet
Time it took: Nobody knows, under an hour

The character: TToN character Myrdiel is the mistress of the Palace of Sun. She was a puppy of a shewolf called Milyé, but like the other puppies of her, she was changed magically as an elf by great shamanwitch, old lady called Eukko. She was the first one who was changed so all didn't go as it was planned and she turned out like this, an animalistic beastlike creature in a body of an elf and a wolf. She's neither of them, she's a monster.

She's not stupid though, she's really intelligent, cunning, wise and sharp. She lives with her loyal followes in dark mountains, in an old palace which was originally her sister's, Sargiel's. Sagriel however was killed by Myrdiel and when the mountain elves who followed Myrdiel chased the pleasant folk of Sadriel away.

In the land that all happened, blood fest always creates demons, little dark creatures who live for blood, betraying, lies and so on. They darkened the mountains and the palace, even the valley in between the mountains. Myrdiel and her folk moved there and Sadriel's clan went in the Sungolden valley, near the sea. Since then the mountains there have been a dark, dangerous and mysterious place, where nobody should go without a very good reason... Some go there for their curiosity, "braveness" but really, it's pure stupidness to go there unless you're in their side.

Death eater

Time it took: Several hours
Tools used: White Nights aquarelles

This is done to Cedu. He asked me to draw a death eater to his website Darkmark (http://darkmark.tk, sorry it's in Finnish). So, this is a kind of commission, but because I support dark Harry Potter fansites, I did it for free of course. So, a free commission. I don't do payed ones because a) noone buys them b) I'm not good enough to do so.

I guess that the first picture is the real version and this last one is either Photoshopped wrong or a former version and made of a photo... I guess the last one.

Then. There's some random no-ones characters. This is really old, I guess it's from 2008 or something. Maybe even 2007.

Eveshade

Time took: under an hour.
Tools used: White nights aquarelles, black ballpoint pen.

She's Illanvarjo or Eveshade, one character in my comic project TToN (The Tale of Nightingale). This picture was done to her character sheet.

Tools used: Derwent Charcoal pencils
Time it took: Who knows, around 30 minutes. Not more, but maybe less?

Sleepwalker

A long time ago I wanted to do challenge works so I said to the friendly people in Vuotis.net forum that they can challenge me. Some of them did, like Albert and Yöfani and Sleepwalker... It took me too long time to finish these, but I did. All except one which I'm going to do soon. This one is for Sleepwalker and the idea was that I must draw her. I have never seen her, so I just did something up (she told some things about her so I could draw her).

I used few hours, A3 aquarelle paper and aquarelles, pencils for scetching (hoh, the scetch was on another paper). Click to see it full sized.

What is this thing about? Well, let me tell you. I bought today a cd record, it was Jethro Tull's album Living In The Past. It inspirated me to draw so I did seven pictures called Carnivale. They are random, made with Open Canvas and they look very simple and they all contain only two colours: the drawing color and the white background. They took around 30 minutes or maybe even under that.

So. Here they are:

About updating this thing

Well, as you see I haven't uploaded any new artworks here for few days. Why is that? Because my newer computer has memory problems and because I wanted more hard disk space, we took it to repair and now it's there and all my digital artwork is in it's hard disk, so I really don't have any artwork to publish. And I haven't been making any either, I've been tired to death for some reason.
Tomorrow, however, will be the last day of necessary school work. After that I'll be free to choose myself whether I go to school or not. I've decided to go, as most of the people of my age do. After the summer holiday I will start highschool and I'm somewhat excited about that fact.

Right now I'm feeling quite creative and I'm quite sure that in next days I will continue to work with acrylic painting I've been working on with for months - mostly because of laziness and busyness and when my computer is okay again, I will work more with the digitals I've been doing and of course upload some works I've already did ready. So, I haven't forget this place. All I hope is that you, readers, which I would really like to have, don't forget me either. So, I wish you all have great summer/what ever season you are having there.

Take care!

The Hundred Themes

I had seen the idea of 100 themes challenge on deviantART and though that I want to modify it a little. That was back in they year 2007 and while I was searching the files of my old computer I'm now on, I found this file of my 100 themes. I don't know if some of them are the same as in the dA version which was not invented by me at all (and which I've used to inspire myself, too). While I was translating it I slightly edited some themes because there was some themes that weren't good at all and which were too similar to each other, so I made some new ones and deleted some old ones. The idea remains the same and the changes weren't really big.

But. Here it is. Shaimee's 100 themes from the year 2007. Originally written in Finnish, translated in English in 2009. Feel free to use it if you like and if you don't let it be. You can decide to take the full challenge as your project or just get some random inspiration of some of the themes or maybe just one. What ever. I just found this old thing and wanted that you guys see it.

The Curse

The Song: Disturbed - The Curse

Tools used: Wacom Intuos 3 A4 tablet, Open Canvas Plus
Time it took: Several hours, something around 7-10 or something like that. At least 6.

People have been giving me lots of good comments on this one. I worked with it hard and I think that the work payed itself off. The character is the most detailed character I've ever done without drawing line arts there. It's semi-realistic/realistic and the background doesn't completely suck even tough it was done a little too quickly.

People have been saying that I could add some shadows and highlights there and I think that they are right and I should work on those in my pictures in future. This picture taught me a lot about making realistic pictures and lightning. Even tough it might not be perfect and it definitely isn't such, I like it very much because it was useful for me to do and I think that the guys who look at it won't be really disappointed either. This might be the best picture I've ever done.

About the song then... I really did the picture first and then while I was drawing the background there, I listened to Disturbed and noticed that their song The Curse would fit on this one and so, I gave this name The Curse and this became the part of my project.

Chiquitita

The Song: ABBA - Chiquitita

Tools used: Wacom Intuos 3 A4 Tablet, Open Canvas Plus
Time it took: Something between 2 and 3 hours

I tried a new technique to draw humans in this one and I'm quite happy with that technique now. When I had just done this thing, I though that it didn't went good at all. Still, there was some parts I liked too, like the shading of the people's skin and their hair. The background doesn't really look like I meant it to look like first, but I think that it's okay.

But. The dudes there look just definitely weird, I can't deny it. I can see some anatomy mistakes there, even tough they're stylishedly drawn, there is some of those and because of those their faces look strange. I didn't really plan doing this picture, I just found myself of scetching two girls and listening to ABBA's Chiquitita and then I got an idea of adding this picture to my project and I had to make a new theme that it fitted in it. It was good because I needed more themes.

77 Glorious Songs -project

The Art Project of Shaimee

What's it about?
The whole idea is that I'm going to pic up seven themes and eleven songs for each theme. Then I will do one picture of each of the songs. All of the pictures I will post one at the time with Youtube-links to the songs (if I can found those from Yt) and the lyrics of the songs too. However, on this post I will publish the links to the picture entries themselves that all of the project pictures can be found here easily.

DONE: 7/7 themes 41/77 songs 3/77 pictures

Shai is here, so beware!

Okay, here I am! You seem to be here too, and I'm very glad about that. You might not know what the heck is this Art Block thingie - let me tell you. Art Block is an art blog of mine. I did it because I needed to show my art work to the world, tell about my original characters and about my thoughts and such.

I have had several english websites before. I've had a personal which told about me and my characters and I've had a fantasy site about my fantasyworld and characters and I've had those with my art work and I've had also a normal text blog. Why don't I just simply keep those living things and let this thing be undone? Because I've noticed that a) It's easier to get comments from people if you have it in a blog form - it makes the commenting simple b) It's possible and easy to add the character information and my personal information and even my fantasy world information on a blog site and post art so people can comment it and post artichles that people can comment too if the system is like blog. People don't easily go to the guestbook and tell their opinions about this and that text or picture on the site. They might tell their opinion of the site itself, but the details don't get so much attention. I think that this system makes people think more about the things I've published here.

But as you see, I haven't published anything yet and this is the first entry. What will the future bring for you to see? Art, people, art. My drawings and paintings in traditional and in digital form. You have maybe seen them in deviantART or Storm artists, but I think that the blog system is maybe better than them too, because this lets everyone comment and not just the registered users. You have maybe noticed that I like comments. I don't say that you just have to make something up and comment something random to me if you don't feel like it or something, but if you have any idea how I could improve my art or it maked you think something or you have suggestions or... anything, you should mention it to me. It makes improving easier, you know, and all I want to do is to improve!

Well. I guess that was that. Good day everyone, take care, support peace!
